Congressman Judy Biggert remember in school they used to talk about American ingenuity and know-how – how we were a go-getter society that could accomplish great things? Remember how they talked about America being the land of opportunity, where ordinary people could work hard, raise a family and the kids would do better than their parents? Do you remember the American Dream, Judy, and its promise? I do. I still believe in it Judy. That’s why I’m concerned about where we’ve been going these last seven years or so. It’s why I can’t understand your vote against federal children’s health care funding through the state administered S-CHIP program. It’s a program that works – a program that Republicans and Democrats alike support.
In France kids are born with health care. In Britain kids are born with health care. In Germany and Italy, and in Canada and Denmark, kids are born with health care.
In America a lot of kids are born who don’t have access to health care – as many as one in four – with as many as 23 million a year lacking health care that they would get if they lived in France or Britain or Germany or Italy or Canada or Denmark or any number of other countries, rich or poor.
Judy, I think our kids are as good as French kids. I think our kids deserve to have health care like British kids. I think our kids deserve the chances health care provides to grow up healthy and lead good, productive adult lives like the kids in Germany, Italy, Canada, Denmark and so many other countries. I know President Bush doesn’t want to fund S-CHIP, despite members of his own party saying they support it because they know it works. President Bush is wrong on this one, Judy, and if you vote with President Bush, then you’re wrong.
I’ve written to you tonight Congressman Biggert to ask you to override the president’s veto of S-CHIP funding so that American kids who have been getting health care through the program, and need it, can continue to get it – and maybe some of the others that need it can get it too. I believe in America Judy, and I believe in our kids. Our kids deserve every chance we can give them – the chance that they’d have in other countries. Please vote to support our kids, Judy, they need your help. Thank you.
