Councilman Dick Furstenau Sues Naperville For Violation Of Civil Rights

On Wednesday Naperville Councilman Dick Furstenau filed suit against the city of Naperville, the police chief and two officers claiming his civil rights were violated in his arrest New Years Day 2006 for shoving a police officer, according to the Naperville Sun. Furstenau has steadfastly denied the charges and has blamed the suit for his loss to Randy Hultgren in the 2006 Republican Primary for State Senate District 48. Furstenau is being represented by attorney Shawn Collins. Collins believes it will take up to two years to go to trial, although city attorney Margo Ely said it might take even more. Dick Furstenau says that he plans to continue to serve on the Naperville City Council.
