H.R. 3996 is a temporary tax relief bill to prevent the AMT (alternative minimum tax), originally created to make the wealthy pay minimum taxes, from taxing middle class taxpayers at higher rates by getting rid of deductions. michael from chicago has a long piece describing the ins and outs of the AMT legislation and votes – but the bottomline is simple: Biggert, Roskam, Kirk, Manzullo and almost every other Republican member of the Illinois U.S. House delegation voted against this bill despite claiming to support tax relief. Middle class taxpayers take note.

1. Roskam and the Republicans voted against tax relief.
