James Fallows spell out what’s wrong with Sarah Palin not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is here. I was going to blog my own thought about it that boiled down to this: doesn’t she read the newspapers? Any decent newspaper, especially in the Op-Ed section, has discussed the Bush Doctrine of preemptive strikes without imminent threat quite a bit since 2002. If Sarah Palin cared at all about what the leader of her party was doing in foreign affairs (like in Iraq), she’d know. But she didn’t.
That reminds me of a bumper sticker I’ve seen a number of times: “If you’re not outraged, you haven’t been paying attention.” That may be right – but the reverse doesn’t seem true: if you haven’t been paying attention, you’re not outraged. The Republican convention and Sarah Palin’s speech were big on outrage, but I don’t think they’ve been paying attention. The embrace of the obviously unqualified Sarah Palin by some in the GOP seems to prove the point, as does Sarah Palin herself.
