DuPage Democrats Major Breakthroughs

Congratulations to all the candidates of all parties this cycle. Democrats locally worked harder than I’ve ever seen before, and their efforts made major headway, with an unprecedented number of competitive races. Congratulations to incoming President Barack Obama, who I’ll talk about more in another post.

Congratulations to the re-elected incumbents: U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Congressman Bill Foster, State Senators Don Harmon and Linda Holmes, and State Representative Paul Froehlich.

I’ll probably have more later, but special mentions to….

… Rita Gonzalez, who after years of effort is a new DuPage County Board member representing District 1,

… Tony Michelassi, who will join the DuPage County Board as one of its youngest members, representing District 5, and

… Dirk Enger, who after years of effort is a new DuPage County Board member representing District 6.

It’s late, so it’s possible I missed something that I’ll correct later. On a personal note I know that both State Representative candidates Dianne McGuire and Gary Nowak worked extremely hard – and as of now it seems that they may have fallen just short. While I wasn’t in touch with Barbara Dahl’s campaign, she too seems to have lost a tremendously close one. My heart goes out to them.
